THE CONSTRUCTION OF MEGALI MANTINEIA

Constructing the place, which took eleven years, had its problems but also its festive moments and, due to its length, comprises a distinct period of the history of the building. We are going to devote here a whole separate section to the constructing effort. It was successful with the help and cooperation of a team of both self-taught as well as trained craftsmen, who managed to breathe life into new aesthetic quests, while smoothly overcoming the limitations posed by the building itself.

The outcome, thus, is a manifestation of the craftsmen’s enthusiastic improvisation, skillfulness and gusto. Its beauty - if any - is a result of the fun, the cooperation and the feelings of deep friendship that were forged among people along the way.

As for the decoration, most of the objects used were not found on the market, they were designed and bought over a span of thirty years. The style does not refer to a particular era more than any other, but it is the outcome of a long, personal travelling experience.
